CloseBarbara Catania (nee Maynard) is a proud Barkindji/Ngiyampaa artist who paints unique contemporary Aboriginal art. As part of her cultural heritage she uses a lot of line work as indicative of her Barkindji background.
Emu callers are usually about 30cms long and is made from wood that is hollowed out.
By hitting the top of the wood with an open hand, it mimics the sound of a female emu, which
attracts the male emu who leaves the nest and someone from the clan can sneak in and grab the
eggs without being harmed.
